Bristol Bible Chapel

Bristol Bible Chapel is a loving spiritual family that holds to the preeminence of the Lord Jesus Christ. We are committed to the preached Word of God for the purpose of equipping the saints to understand the assurance of salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord in order to live Christ-like lives and to reach out to the world with the Gospel.

About Us

We are simply believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. We meet only in His Name, following the biblical principles of gathering just as believers did in the early days of the church before there were denominational barriers or distinctions

What We Believe

The Bible

The Bible is the inerrant Word of God and is given to man by the inspiration of God (2 Tim. 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21).

The Trinity

There is one God who exists eternally in three equally divine persons; The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit (Matt. 28:19; 2 Cor. 13:14).

Jesus Christ our Lord

Jesus Christ is the only begotten (John 3:16) and eternal Son of God, and the only one whose life was absolutely sinless (Matt. 1:18-23; John 1:1, 14; 1 John 3:5). He was miraculously conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin named Mary.

Man's Sinfulness

Man is universally and utterly sinful by nature (Gen. 3; Psalms 51:5; 58:3-4; Rom. 3:9-23; 5:12-19), and that it is impossible for him to be saved by his own good works or religious observances (Jer. 17:9; Rom. 4:5; Eph. 2:8-9; Titus 3:5).

Salvation by Grace through Faith

On the cross at Calvary, Christ completely and eternally paid the penalty for sin, and was raised from the dead according to the scriptures (Rom. 5:6-8; 1 Cor. 15:3-4), and any person who in faith rests upon Christ’s finished work (John 19:30), immediately enters into its benefit to his present and eternal salvation (John 5:24; John 10:28-30; Heb. 5:9), that Christ ascended into Heaven (Luke 24:50-51) and is now our High Priest as well as our Advocate

Christ's Second Coming

The rapture of the church at the coming of Christ in the air (1 Cor. 15:51-57; 1 Thess. 4:13-18); the revelation of Christ at His coming to the earth prior to the setting up of His millennial Kingdom (Matt. 24:29-31) and the personal, literal reign of Christ over this earth for 1,000 years (1 Cor. 15:24-28; Rev. 20:4-6).

Judgement

The immediate entry into hell of every soul dying without Christ (Luke 16:19-31); their resurrection to stand before the Great White Throne of Judgment (John 5:28-29; Rev. 20:11-13) and their consignment to the lake of fire forever and ever (Matt.25:46; Rev. 20:14-15).

The Resurrection of the Dead

The resurrection of all believers at the rapture of the Church (1 Thess. 4:16-18); and the review and reward of their life and works (Rom. 14:10-12; 1 Cor. 3:11-15).

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit indwells every Christian and enables him to live a holy life (Rom. 8:11).

Two Ordinances

There are two ordinances for the church, namely, the baptism of believers by immersion in water (Matt. 28:19; Acts 8:35-38); and the Lord’s Supper for believers, which we celebrate each Lord’s Day (Matt. 26:26-28, 1 Cor. 11:23-26) as did the early church (Acts 20:7).

How We Function

Elders

The New Testament makes clear the local churches were left in the care of elders (Acts 14:23; 20:17; Titus 1:5); who are sometimes call bishops (1 Tim. 3:1-2), or overseers (Acts 20:28-29). Scripture teaches that these men should be spiritually mature (1 Tim. 3:2-7). It is their responsibility to tend the "flock of God", focusing on their need for spiritual care, counsel, example, leadership (Heb. 13:7), feeding (1 Pet. 5:1-4), restoration and discipline. The elders meet once a week and are always available to discuss immediate needs. Elders are added as their spiritual calling becomes apparent.

Deacons

The New Testament speaks of deacons (Phil. 1:1; 1 Tim. 3:8-13) and as the title suggests, a deacon is “one who serves”. Their specific area of service is the temporal needs of the assembly. Deacons are selected by the assembly and appointed (given authority) by the elders (Acts 6:1-7).

Priesthood of the Believer

The New Testament teaches the priesthood of all believers (1 Pet. 2:5-10; Rev. 1:6). We, therefore, encourage every Christian to exercise that priestly ministry by worshipping God and by being a good witness to man. We do not recognize as scriptural, the division of God’s people into clergy and laity. Our worship meeting (Lord’s Supper) each Sunday morning provides a special opportunity for the church to function in its priestly character.

Spiritual Gifts

The New Testament teaches that all believers have a spiritual gift(s) (Rom. 12:5-8; 1 Cor. 12:1-31; 1 Pet. 4:10). The church is one body ( Eph. 4:4-7; 11-12), having many different members, all functioning to the benefit of the whole. We, therefore, seek to help each person to recognize his/her spiritual gift(s) and to encourage each to give himself wholly to its use so that the entire Body may benefit. In the local assembly, each Christian whether old or young can find a place of service.

Women

The New Testament teaches that men and women are an equally important part of the body of Christ (Gal. 3:28), each being gifted for ministry to the Body (1 Pet. 4:10). It also teaches that God has an order of headship in the church that is not to be usurped. “The head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God” (1 Cor. 11:3).

Consistent with God’s order of headship, scripture teaches that the women are to participate silently (that is, not to speak – 1 Cor. 14:34-35), at meetings called out by the elders to fulfill the New Testament principles of gathering as given in Acts 2:42 (examples of meetings called out by the elders are the Lord’s Supper and the Sunday morning teaching). In all other functions the women are encouraged to take an active part in a loving and caring assembly, ministering to one another, meeting needs and furthering the testimony and work of the assembly in a manner that will glorify God.

Finances

“Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give, not grudgingly, or of necessity; for God loveth a cheerful giver.” “For the administration of this service not only supplieth the want of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings unto God” (2 Cor. 9:7 and 12). There are no pledges, envelopes or collections. Finances are provided by God through the free will offering of the saints in a box provided for that purpose.
